How much of what you believe about health is actually something you've questioned for yourself?
A 5-week class with Melissa & Steve
Don't eat that. It's inflammatory.
That food causes cancer.
Your body is attacking itself.
Your genes determine your fate.
You need to catch things early before they become something serious.
Your body is fragile, your environment is dangerous, and if you don't follow the rules, you might pay the price.
Sound familiar?
We're surrounded by health advice, warnings, rules, experts, studies, influencers, and people who are VERY certain they know exactly what's making us sick.
But how often do we stop and ask: Where did I get this belief? What am I assuming is true? And what happens to my life when I believe it?
Welcome to Health Dogma Detox.
What if the biggest problem isn't always the thing you think it is?
We're not here to replace one set of rigid health rules with another. We're here to get curious about the assumptions underneath them.
Because believing that your body is constantly under attack creates a very different experience of life than believing your body is intelligent, responsive, and capable of adapting.
What you believe about food, symptoms, stress, your environment, and your body influences how you interpret what happens to you. It affects your choices, your fears, your confidence, and how much freedom you feel you have.
And some of the beliefs we inherit about health are so deeply ingrained that we don't even recognize them as beliefs anymore.
They're just "the way things are."
Until we question them.
Five weeks of questioning the unquestioned
We'll take a fresh look at some of the most common health beliefs we've inherited and explore what happens when we stop treating conventional wisdom as unquestionable truth.
Here's a taste of what we'll explore:
Week 1:
Food Fear & Diet Dogma
Ā
Is that food really the enemy? Why have so many of us become afraid of eating? Let's unpack the rules, restrictions, labels, and moral judgments we've attached to food—and question the assumption that individual foods automatically cause disease.
Week 2:
Your Body Isn't the Enemy
Ā
What if a symptom isn't proof that your body is broken? We'll explore different ways of interpreting bodily changes, the stories we attach to symptoms, and how those stories influence our experience of them.
Week 3:
The Fear of Your Environment
Ā
Are you constantly worrying about toxins, germs, chemicals, and everything you're supposedly supposed to avoid? Let's examine how health warnings shape our perception of risk and where reasonable precautions end and fear-based living begins.
Week 4:
Genetics, Inheritance & Your Health Destiny
Ā
Are your genes a life sentence? What do we mean when we say something is hereditary, inevitable, or simply "in your family"? We'll question deterministic thinking and explore the difference between predisposition, influence, and destiny.
Week 5:
The Health Rules Running Your Life
Ā
What else have you accepted as fact without examining it? We'll bring the pieces together, identify the beliefs that have the greatest influence on your decisions, and explore how to approach health with more awareness, discernment, and confidence.
These are proposed themes; we'll refine the final curriculum as we develop the class.
This isn't about believing the opposite of everything you've been told.
It's about becoming a better thinker.
We're not asking you to throw out every health recommendation, ignore symptoms, or pretend risks don't exist. We're inviting you to examine the assumptions behind the advice, distinguish evidence from interpretation, and notice when fear has become the primary driver of your choices.
You can make thoughtful decisions without being terrified of your own body.
You can take care of yourself without turning your entire life into a health management project.
You can be curious without being gullible, skeptical without being cynical, and open-minded without accepting every new theory that comes along.
Awareness gives you options.
Dogma narrows them.
This class is for you if...
You're exhausted by contradictory health advice and endless rules about what you should and shouldn't do.
You've noticed how easily a new diagnosis, warning, or health trend can send you into a spiral.
You want to question food fear, symptom fear, and the belief that your body is fundamentally fragile.
You're interested in exploring a biological perspective on health and the body's adaptive responses.
You want to make decisions from curiosity and discernment rather than panic.
You're ready to examine your own beliefs not just the beliefs you disagree with.
Five weeks of questioning, discussion, and fresh perspectives.
